Torrin Lawrence Dies; U.S. Sprinter Was 25

According to officials, Lawrence (who helped the U.S 4×400 relay team finish first at the IAAF World Relays) was driving in Georgia around 1:40 a.m. when his vehicle blew a tire and came to a stop.

Lawrence got out of to dial 911 when a big rig struck the car, knocking it into the track star. He died of injuries suffered in the wreck.

“Torrin represented USATF with pride and passion, and had an incredible future ahead of him. We join those who will miss him deeply,” said USA Track & Field CEO Max Siegel in a statement.
